Expertise

The main goal of the van der Vliet laboratory is to unravel the molecular mechanisms by which biological and environmental oxidants contribute to lung cell injury, inflammation, and remodeling, as major features of chronic lung diseases such as asthma, COPD and lung cancer.

Research Interests

Nitric oxide synthases and NADPH oxidases in airway biology and pathology; Oxidant mechanisms in inflammation; Chemistry and biology of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species; Environmental oxidants and electrophiles; Lung epithelial cell biology and signaling; Chemical mechanisms of protein oxidation; Proteomic analysis of oxidation and alkylation targets; Antioxidant enzymes and micronutrients.
